Surveying Out
Machines which have been replaced that are Dell GX110 or higher
should be returned to Systems for reallocation. Do not survey them out.
Please check with Systems if you are unsure of the disposition
of equipment.
Bobbie Meng, 2004-05-25.
Search the Hard Drive
Sometimes TIF files get parked locally and never make it into the proper work flow. Search C:\ for *.tif. If you find any, ask the local supervisor what to do with them.
Format the Hard Drive
Check for Special Hardware Components
Many workstations will have a cd-rom burner, memeory cards, an extra hard drive, a scsi card or other special item that we need to salvage to install elsewhere.
Depending on the item, Systems may need to be informed if and when it has been installed on another workstation. Usually not though.
Inform the Systems Department
Send SysHelp a list of items returned whenever you retire computer equipment. Remember, it is all signed out to you, and you are the person who is responsible for tracking it until we are notified that it has left your area. Bill Covey 2001-03-23
- Complete the Equipment Removal Form. You may include the tower and monitor on the same form.
- Make a copy and mail it to Bobbie M. in Systems.
- Place the original form with the workstation.
- Update the workstation database to reflect that those components are no longer in service.
- Check the vertical file to see if that WSID has anydocumentation there. If so, remove it, and forward it to Systems.
Contact the Facilities Department
When it is time to return any equipment, email the person in the Facilities department in charge of university property (currently Bill H.) to request a pickup, or just walk it over there (call ahead first, 273-2575). Make sure to have a copy of the equipment removal form to go with it.
