Digital Library Center: Network Activity
UF's Computing and Networking Services (CNS) have a Network Monitoring System that's accessible online to check on network traffice. To check network traffic:
- Go to CNS's Network Monitoring System
- Select the building from the drop-down menu (Smathers)
- Looking at the results, choose the appropriate device.
- As of May 2008, the DLC runs through the sma299c-wg items.
For additional reference on the device names, please note:
- Bpop is the "building point of presence" which is a router (connecting the building to the main campus network)
- Wg is workgroup or this could also be svr for server - it designates a switch either for general use or a server room.
- The number after that is the model number of the device.
- The number after that (1,2, etc) notes if there are more than one of those devices in that rack.
So sma16-bpopl3-3750-1.ns.ufl.edu is in Smathers room 16, it’s a Catalyst 3750 router and it’s the first of those in the rack in that location.
