Using WorldCat
OCLC WorldCat
OCLC WorldCat is a union catalog of international institutions, making it the world's most comprehensive bibliography. Listing over 62 million books and other materials in libraries worldwide, WorldCat can be used to determine:
- • location of the nearest institution with the publication you want
- • what book and other materials are available on a particular subject
- • citation accuracy
The UF Libraries has access to the freely available version and a commercial version, both with links back to the UF Library Catalog and Interlibrary Loan service:
- • WorldCat.org- free version (provides limiters for narrowing directly from result list)
- • FirstSearch - commercial version (allows for quick identification of UF holdings; requires log on from off-campus)
WorldCat Subset Databases
You may also limit your WorldCat Search to any of the following subset databases:
- *WorldCat Dissertations and Theses
Provides access to to over 5 million records of dissertations and theses available in OCLC member libraries catalogs in the WorldCat database. Many theses are available electronically, at no charge, directly from the publishing institution. - *WorldCatE-Books
Citations link to full text licensed from NetLibrary and other electronic providers as well as to free electronic books available from educational, government and other websites. Not all e-books listed are accessible to the State Universities of Florida. - *FloridaCat
Search only records from Florida Libraries - *FloridaCat
- State University Libraries Only
Once connected, at any time you may easily change the LIMIT to enable searching "All Florida Libraries", or some other segment.
