Search for a Specific Journal in the E-Journals Database
Browse A-Z List or Search
Using information supplied
by the UF Libraries about our local E-Journal and database subscriptions,
this customized database has been created for the UF Libraries by
a private company (Serials Solutions, Inc.) that specializes in helping
libraries provide better access to electronic resources for their users.
This
new service is intended to provide as complete a list as
possible of journals for which online access to article full text is available
at the University of Florida. This database allows browsing A-Z lists, or searching (in several ways).
What's included?
-
Those journals from major
publishers (Elsevier Science Direct, Kluwer, Wiley, etc.) for which links
have been available in the UF Libraries' Catalog. Other E-Journals
with links in the UF Libraries' Catalog (e.g. to journals from small publishers,
individual societies, etc.) are still being added to this new database.
-
Thousands of journals which
have content located in the many article databases we subscribe to (e.g.
EBSCOhost Academic Search Elite, Lexis-Nexis
Academic Universe, etc.). It has not been feasible to list these titles in the UF Libraries' Catalog.
-
Dates of full-text availability
for most listed journals. This information has not normally been available
in the UF Libraries Catalog records for E-Journals. NOTE: Upon connection, you may find in some cases that the dates shown in the database are not consistent whith what's actually available.
-
When more than one service includes
full text content, this will be shown.
ALERT! Limitations of the List
-
Initially, not all of the journals for
which links have been available in the UF Libraries Catalog are available
on the list.
Read more about what's not included.
If
you don't find one listed, be sure to check the UF Libraries' Catalog.
-
Since the list is updated only
every two months, the data may not be accurate for the following reasons:
-
New journals or article services
may have been added to the UF Libraries' Catalog which may not yet be listed.
-
If the UF Libraries ever need
to cancel a subscription to a journal (or a service with many journals),
those titles may remain until the next update.
-
Because the journals offered
through many article services are not completely stable, any titles which
the service provider loses rights from the publisher to include will remain
on the list until the next update. Similarly, new journals added to a service
will only appear after the next update.
-
While direct links to the article
services are present from the list entry, in some cases the link only takes
you to the a search screen for the service rather than to the specific
journal. To locate articles from a specific journal will require a variety
of approaches.
Other Tips for Using the
E-Journals Database
-
Entering a search for a journal title provides a results list that is easier to read than the A-Z lists. It also allows for searching for a word within a title (not just the first word by which e-journals are organized on the A-Z lists.) Other advanced search options (e.g. by sound of a word) also exist. Search results also include a link to quickly search the UF Libraries' Catalog for the journal to see if there are local print holdings, etc.
-
The A-Z lists of journals are
often very long Web pages, so keep in mind the following:
-
Although you may scroll the
list alphabetically, you may sometimes find it helpful to use the browser
"Find" function to look for a specific word in a journal title on the page.
-
If you wish to print any entries,
it will be better to copy/paste selected text rather than print an entire
page (because of the length of each page).
-
Select "Index of Databases"
at the top of each list to return to the E-Journals page (and the other options for locating E-Journal articles).
-
When connecting to an E-Journal
title, you will often be able to connect to or search other E-Journals
available from that publisher (or from many publishers) on the same Web
site. NOTE: UF may not have subscribed to all journals from a publisher,
so your access may be limited.
