OPTION 5:
Approaches to Identifying Journals by Subject
- Search in an Appropriate Database: -- When searching using your own specific keyword, etc. search terms in a relevant subject index/database, you will find citations for articles that include the journal name. Finding examples of relevant articles to your area of research in a particular journal may mean that you will find others in that journal as well.
- Database Locator -- If you already know of a specific database in which to search for relevant articles.
- Subject Guides -- If you don't yet know of a relevant database, try using the resources provided here. If you need assistance, please ask library Reference and Information staff.
- Browse the E-Journal Locator Database Using Assigned Subject Terms: -- Journal titles available at UF have been associated with subject headings assigned by the Library of Congress (Columbia University’s Hierarchical Interface to LC Classification (HILCC) project). To begin browsing, select one of the broad categories in the drop-down menu below. Each selection will lead to a list of more specific categories -- and eventually to the names of journals (and links to them).
- Search E-Journal Locator Database for one or more Words in the Journal Title: -- "Title contains word(s)"
searches may include one or more words anywhere in the journal title (in
any order). WARNING: This approach will only retrieve a very limited number of journals (if any), but any retrieved may be very relevant. However, other approaches will almost certainly yield more better results.
- Journals by Publisher -- Some publisher sites include lists of their journals organized by subject.
