FAQ: Remote Access

UF Libraries' database and journal subscriptions are limited by licensing to the members of the UF community, including students, staff, faculty. Access to databases and e-journals is usually not a problem when working from a computer on campus. But when you attempt to connect to a journal or database such as JSTOR from off campus through a commercial Internet service such as AOL or Cox Cable, you will need to verify that you are affiliated so that you may connect.

There are a couple of ways that you can remedy this problem.

1) Use the remote logon service
At the top right hand corner of most library webpages, you will see a link for "remote logon" that takes you to this page: http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/ufproxy.html. You will be connected to a computer that acts as a "proxy," suppling UF credentials to the database or journal vendor, letting you connect. Simply sign on with your GatorLink username and password, then follow the instructions given on the remote logon page.

2) For a more permanent remedy, consider installing the UF VPN software. Instructions are available here: http://net-services.ufl.edu/provided_services/vpn/
For assistance with downloading and configuring the VPN software, contact the UF CIRCA Helpdesk at 392-HELP. They can walk you through the installation process.
