Using the UF Libraries' Catalog

Change Databases

The UF Libraries' Catalog gives you the option of searching only a subset of the catalog -- typically limiting your search to a particular LOCATION or TYPE OF MATERIAL (e.g., JOURNALS/SERIALS or ONLINE RESOURCES).

Shortcuts for journal/serial titles, course reserves, or online resources persist on every screen in the Catalog.

Click on CHANGE DATABASES  to view all the other subsets and links:

The Course Reserves column lists two options. The Course Reserves - Health and Law system looks and works like the UF Libraries' Catalog. The ERes system is used for Course Reserves managed by the Smathers Libraries; that is, all the campus libraries except Health (HSCL) and Law (Legal Information Center).

The options listed under Select Local Database are the subsets to which you may choose to limit your search session. For example, someone at the Legal Information Center may wish to see records for only those materials that are available at their campus library. Other users may wish to limit their results to a particular format, such as:

  • Journal/Serial subscriptions, both in print and online. Click the "Connect Now" link for online journals to see which issues and years are subscribed by the libraries.
  • Electronic-only Theses and Dissertations. (For theses and dissertations produced in print format, search the FULL CATALOG).
  • Online Resources includes records that have links to full text (journals, books, documents, etc.).

The Select External Database column lists other SUL (State University Libraries) catalogs; some of these are still available using the old WebLUIS Search System.

If you want to limit your searches to some other location than is provided here (e.g., Music Library or the Latin American Collection), remember that you may limit by these and other locations in the Advanced Search screen.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Always be alert to what the catalog is showing as your currently selected database. For example, you may have changed to JOURNALS/SERIALS to look for a journal title and then be unable find a book you want because you're still searching the Journal/Serials subset. (On the screen below, the red arrow indicates where "Gone with the Wind" does not appear in the list of Journal/Serial titles). At any screen, you always have the option of clicking on   FULL CATALOG  to return to the full catalog:
