Using the UF Libraries' Catalog

Holdings Record (Journals)

To see which volumes and issues the Libraries has for a journal, magazine, newspaper, or multi-volume sets, click the Location line on either the Search Results/Brief Record or the Full Record.

[Serials Holdings record]

A Journals/Serials holdings record lists all the volumes and issues that the library owns for a particular serial title and gives the location and call number:

[Serials Holdings record]

Some Journals/Serials can be found in several different libraries on campus. Each library may have different volumes and issues. Some years of journals are also available online. Look thoroughly if you don't see your volume/issue on the first screen you select:

  • From the Brief Records View: Did you find all of the records?
  • [more than one Record for a journal]

  • When you are looking at a Holdings screen, notice the options to select a year, a volume, or a sub-library. Set the "Select Sub-library" to ALL to make sure you're seeing all the volumes in all the libraries included in that record.
  • [Select Sub-library: ALL]

NOTE: The UF Libraries subscribe to many journals in electronic format. When so, a Link may appear on the Search Results/Brief Records screen. The Full Record may display more links to other access sites, and more details such as access notes and which years are included in the subscription.

NOTE:The UF Libraries license many e-journals from publishers and "aggregator" services. Not all of these journals/magazines/newspapers have records in the UF Libraries' Catalog. Use the  E-Journals  E-Journals Locator in the orange bar at the top of each catalog screen to double-check access to E-Journals.
