Finding Full-Text Articles
If you are OFF CAMPUS, first click Remote Logon in the header bar of the UF Libraries' website to use the Library Proxy, or use the VPN, to access library-subscribed e-journals and articles.
I only want online articles for my assignment. I need articles fast!
From the UF Libraries' website, click on the Databases tab in the header bar, and select Project Starters.
These fast and easy services either contain only full-text articles, or they have a clearly-marked button to limit a search only to articles with full text online.
If full text is not directly available through the service, click
to check other online/print options.
With some journals and years, you may retrieve only the text of the articles. Photos, charts, graphs, and other illustrative material may be omitted from "text only" versions. For graphical material that is not included in a "text only" version, you may need to consult a printed version of the article.
I know the journal (and volume, pages, etc.) that I'm looking for.
- QUICK: Search the SFX Citation Linker.
- DOUBLE-CHECK: Search the E-Journals Locator to see if the journal is in one of the full-text services.
- TRIPLE-CHECK: See if the Libraries subscribe to the PRINT version, by searching the UF Libraries' Catalog.
[TIP: Click on JOURNALS/SERIALS, then Browse: Title begins with.] - If the Libraries do not subscribe to the journal or do not have the volume/year needed, use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service.
I need serious research-level articles from journals.
- Use the Subject Guides to identify appropriate indexes for your research topic. These databases use a variety of search engines.
- You may wish to consult the Library Database Searchers' Cheat Sheet or the online help or ask a librarian for assistance in searching an unfamiliar database.
- Once you have found citations to articles, click
or search the E-Journals Locator or the UF Libraries' Catalog by the journal name or source (not the title of the article) to see whether the full text is available.
- Use Google Scholar with caution: links go to published articles, local documents, and incomplete drafts. When you are using an on-campus computer or connected via remote logon, look for "Full Text via SFX@UF" or "SFX@UF" or "group of..." if the title link does not lead you to the full text.
