About the Library

The Allen H. Neuharth Journalism and Communications Library is a departmental library associated with the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries. Located in Weimer Hall, it serves the students, faculty and staff in the College of Journalism and Communications by supporting the instructional and research programs of the college, including the Departments of Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, and Telecommunication.

COLLECTIONS

The library collection includes books, videos, newsletters, scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, newspapers and various other resources. Due to space restrictions portions of the circulating collection are housed in Library West (the main Humanities and Social Sciences library) and off-site storage. The Journalism Librarian can assist in locating and accessing resources found in other campus libraries or off-site locations.

ONLINE RESOURCES

The library serves as a springboard for research through its extensive electronic resources. The library staff is continuously expanding and updating the Subject Guides (see Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations and Telecommunication/Broadcasting on this list) to give researchers direct access to key electronic resources. These include subscriptions to full-text databases and indexes a well as selected Internet sites covering journalism, mass communications, and related subject areas.

ADDITIONAL LIBRARY SERVICES

Reference Services: A professional librarian is available most hours the library is open to assist with reference questions. More information is available at Reference Services.

Computer Workstations: Computer workstations provide full access to the Internet as well as the library catalog and numerous databases, indexes, and other electronic resources provided by the Smathers Libraries. Note: Wireless access is available in all areas of the library.

Study Rooms/Carrels: Study rooms may be reserved for group study. Individual study carrels and reading tables are also available.

HDTV/DVD/VHS Player: A flat screen television with built in DVD and VHS capability is available and may be reserved for use in the study rooms. Contact the circulation desk for additional information.

Course Reserves: Printed materials put on course reserve by College of Journalism and Communications faculty are available at the circulation desk. E-reserve materials may be obtained from computer workstations in the library or from any remote computer with Internet access. For more information see the main Course Reserves page.

Interlibrary Loan: Patrons needing materials not housed in the University of Florida Libraries can request them via the extensive interlibrary loan system. For more information ask a librarian at any location or go to the ILLiad page.

Copy/Printing Services: Copy machines are available and operate with a UF Library Printing and Copy Card. Printing from any of the computer workstations is also available using the same card
