Faculty Governance at the University of Florida Libraries
Tenure & Promotion Committee
Charge/Duties:
As the designated college committee per UF guidelines and regulations, review applications and make evaluative recommendations for tenure and promotion, mid-career review, senior faculty pay plan and, on request, tenure upon hire. All reviews are based on established criteria for distinction in professional responsibility, scholarship, and service. Fact-finding reports and assessments are shared with the Dean of Libraries. Committee communicates directly with mid-career candidates. Monitors procedures for tenure and promotion on campus. As appropriate, recommends library policy and procedure modifications, including maintenance of the appropriate Career Development Handbook sections. Individual committee members may be assigned to speak with candidates about T&P requirements and expectations during the employment interview process. Members may participate in Tenure and Promotion Support Group events.
Membership:
- 9 members, at least 4 elected and 4 appointed with the 5th alternating yearly.
- All must be tenured faculty members, with majority University Librarians; must include one member each from Health Science Center Libraries and Legal Information Center with others well-distributed among areas of Smathers Libraries.
