Ex Libris Kickoff Meetings
  1. The Ex-Libris kickoff meetings will be held on May 7-11. Expecting people to attend for 1 or 2 days. Information on the event should go out in the next day or so. UNF has had their kickoff. A good many warranties remain (including NOTIS to ALIF migration, volume, test loads). Train-the-trainer approach – stay tuned!
CLAS Fire in Rolf Hall
  1. There wasn’t too much impact due to the fire, except on email. The fire did not trip the fire suppression equipment, but it did smoke enough to damage the server disks. They do DHS, DHCP and routing over their servers (we use core router and static RP’s). Some services just came back online; some are still out.
  2. Disaster Planning – need to check with staff regarding procedures for fire/disaster. There has only been one similar event in the Library’s history (a power outage in MSL). Mail and basic service could probably continue fairly immediately. Need to figure out what would constitute “essential services”. What are “minimal services”? Assume full relocation in answers. Database service support is the most worry/bothersome. Backup SAN in MSL is in the works. Need to inventory critical files on Desktops, servers, mail, etc. Failure Points – connectivity, mail, SQL, Web server. Martha notes that other than IT (Collections & materials), Cathy Mook is working on an overall disaster plan. Bill points to immediate vs. ultimate recovery. Can a full recovery be recognized? Users and staff need to know what they have in order to distinguish what has been lost. Nothing needs to be submitted in writing as of yet. What if NERDC goes down? Need to think about what we would do without the Catalog or core router access.
