Crossfire: Beilstein & Gmelin
About Crossfire
The George A. Smathers Libraries provide access for UF faculty, staff, and students to the CrossFire system that searches the Beilstein and Gmelin databases. The Beilstein database provides worldwide coverage of the literature relating to the preparations and properties of organic compounds. The Gmelin database provides worldwide coverage of the literature relating to the preparations and properties of organometallic and inorganic compounds.
Accessing Crossfire
CrossFire is a Windows-based product, not a Web product. You may access CrossFire in two ways:
- In the Marston Science Library, at computer workstations in the "Orange" and "Blue" sections on the Main (2nd) floor.
- From your lab, office, or home. Setup includes:
- Download the Commander software from the Beilstein Client Distribution Page onto your workstation. Follow the Installation Notes carefully. CrossFire needs a valid UF IP address, and connection through the a UF network (such as Gatorlink or VPN).
- Contact the MSL's Computer Support Team, Michael Howell or Laurie Brennan. You must supply the 14-digit library number beneath the barcode on your Gator-1 card, and we will verify that you are currently affiliated with UF. The password and setup instructions will be sent via email.
For technical assistance with installing the Commander software, read the help at the Beilstein Client Distribution Page or contact the MSL Computer Support Team (above).
For assistance with searching the Beilstein and Gmelin databases, read the Quick Guide developed by the University of Wisconsin or contact Carrie Newsom at the Marston Science Library.
Please do not contact anyone at Wisconsin! Read their materials, but please limit your e-mails and phone calls to the UF library staff.
