A. Quinn Jones exhibit opens in Special collections exhibition gallery
The George A. Smathers Libraries’ Department of Special and Area Studies and Joel Buchanan present the exhibit “The Legacy of A. Quinn Jones – All Negro Children Can Learn” in the Smathers Library second floor exhibition gallery through March 1, 2007.
The A. Quinn Jones Collection spans his career as an educator in Gainesville, Florida from 1921 through 1957. The exhibit draws from the collection and features photos, commencement programs, names of faculty members, schedule of classes, papers, letters, family tree, family portraits, the Visionaires, of which his wife Fredereca was a charter member, and materials regarding the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. The collection contributes to the preservation of early educational achievement of Negroes in Gainesville, Florida.
The exhibit is open the same hours as the Department of Special and Area Studies Collections: Mon-Thurs 9:00-6:00; Fri 9:00-5:00. Closed Sat & Sun.
