One Community One Story lecture at UF:
Old Savannah in the New South
Jordan Dominy, Ph.D. student from the University of Florida English Department, will speak on Thursday, February 28, 3:00-4:30 p.m. in room 1A of Smathers Library (East). The topic of his talk is “Old Savannah in the New South: John Berendt’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” which is the book chosen for the seventh annual "One Community One Story" for Gainesville and surrounding communities..
Dominy will examine Berendt’s portrayal of Savannah as a place insistent on the values of the Old South and whether or not this portrayal is flattering or justified. He will speak for 45 minutes, leaving time for questions and discussion. Free and open to the public.
