George A. Smathers Libraries: New Staff Orientation
I. Policy:
The Library's orientation familiarizes appointments with basic policies and procedures of the University and the University Libraries. New appointees of the University Libraries, (Faculty, TEAMS and USPS) are required to participate in the orientation program. The Library Human Resource Office manages the orientation program for newly appointed faculty and staff and announces promotions, transfers and resignations of other faculty and staff upon receipt of e-mail from Division Director and/or supervisor.

A. The Library Human Resource Office announces new appointments on two occasions on the new staff webpage:

1. upon completion/submittal of all hiring paperwork for USPS/TEAMS employees and when provided e-mail announcement by Division Director and/or supervisor
2. upon receipt of the candidates letter of acceptance from Faculty appointees and when provided e-mail announcement by Division Director and/or supervisor
C. The Library Human Resource Office announces Faculty promotions/transfers at the direction of the Division Director of Libraries and when provided e-mail announcement by Division Director and/or supervisor
D. The e-mail information consists of the appointee's (new staff, promotion and transfer) name, department, former position, new position, and start date and photo.

A. The Library Human Resource Officer, or a designated representative, completes a checklist which familiarizes the appointee with basic policies and procedures of the University and University Libraries (see attachment).

A. Approximately one week before the proposed start date, the Library Human Resource Office forwards the checklists to the hiring unit supervisor or will direct them to the website.
B. It is the responsibility of the unit supervisor to complete the checklist with the new appointee.
C. Upon completion, the supervisor and the new employee sign the checklist and forward it to the Library Human Resource Office.

A. The Introduction to Libraries is comprised of two, half day tours of the libraries at which time new staff are introduced to the facility, library resources, programs, and the organizational and administrative objectives, facilities and operations.
B. The Library Human Resource Office offers the program when there are eight new employees or every three months, whichever occurs first.
It is the responsibility of the Library Human Resource Officer to maintain this policy as directed by the Deputy Director.
