The George A. Smathers Libraries are joining other academic and research libraries across the country in using the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries – “@ your library®.” The multi-year public education campaign is designed to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century. The goal for research and academic libraries is to promote awareness of their unique role and their contributions to society.

The American Library Association produced their first READ poster in 1985 featuring Bill Cosby with his favorite book. Since then, some of the world's best-known actors, musicians, authors, sports figures, and library supporters have posed for posters, showing their support to the simple but powerful message -- READ -- on the prestigious posters.

The Smathers Libraries kicked off our campaign in the fall 2004 semester with an initial fourteen posters featuring University of Florida president Bernie Machen and 13 other UF “celebrities.”

Check back monthly to view the new posters featuring UF faculty, students, and administrators.
