GOALS OF THE PRESERVATION DEPARTMENT
Fiscal Year 1999/2000
CONSERVATION
|
-
GOALS:
-
Review and document
procedures relating to advanced treatments, including the use of transfer/treatment
approval forms.
-
Rework and update
Conservation Web pages to document procedures rather than details. Link
to other sites providing techniques such as NEDCC.
-
Develop procedures
for training students in pam binding and general collections repair. This
will be to take up the work vacated by Jan Hernbergers move to binding.
-
Continue the training
of the Sr LTA in intermediate and advanced treatments. Set target goals
for ongoing work such as Map library encapsulation and rehousing.
That we plan to continue normal business goes without saying. But, it bears
repeating that we endeavor to find more efficient ways of doing the same
old thing. Find out how we propose to develop efficiency
in continuing business.

Objective:
Simplify the Conservation Unit Web pages in an effort to make them
easier to keep current and to document procedures rather than techniques.
Techniques are already handled on other web pages and there is really no
need for duplication. Appropriate cross references will be provided.
-
Progress:
-
May 2000.
Discussion underway in the simplification of the Conservation Web pages.
Little has been done at this point except for the planning because of reorganization
and training. Expect to begin this month with the page updates.
-
- June 2000. Dead links have been reactivated, proper headers and footers
have been added, and outdated info has been eliminated.
