Fines & Fees: Smathers Libraries

Please refer to the Legal Information Center and the Health Science Center Library for their billing policies.

For regular loan items:

• Overdue Fine per day per item* - $ 0.25
• Minimum Overdue Fine billed per item - $1
• Maximum Overdue Fine per item - $5
• Replacement Processing Fine per item - $35

*If a recalled item is overdue, fine is $1 per day per item

• General Reserve Items: 2hr and 24hr loans - $1 per hour Other Reserve Items: 3 day and 7 day loans - $1 per dayPeriodicals - $1 per dayReference items - $1 per day
• Minimum Fine billed per item - $ 1
• Maximum Fine per item - $5
• Replacement Processing Fine per item - $35

If a regular or short term loan item reaches the maximum overdue charge, it is considered LOST and the borrower will be assessed the replacement cost of the item in addition to fines accrued. Fines and fees are non-refundable once billed.

Laptop

• $10 per hour overdue charge, maximum $100 overdue at which time the item is considered LOST
• $35 non-refundable replacement processing fine per item
• $2000 replacement fee if item is damaged or considered LOST

Group study room

• $10 per hour overdue charge, maximum $100 overdue at which time the item is considered LOST
• $35 non-refundable replacement processing fine
• $35 non-refundable replacement fee if the key is considered LOST

Pagers

• $35 non-refundable replacement processing fine
• $120 replacement charge

Replacement fee

The cost to replace LOST or damaged item/s is researched through our trusted vendors and charges are assessed accordingly. The library will not accept patron-supplied replacement copies. Please refer to our replacement policy.
