Instructions for Installing and Using WinONI

Installation

From a networked library computer running Windows95:
  1. Make sure no HostExplorer sessions are open.
  2. Follow the path //smathersnt2/RS tools/Winoni setup/ in the NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD
  3. Double click setup.exe, an installation program should be launched.  ***Note*** This program may need to update some files on some computers.  If presented with such an option choose "Yes".
  4. WinOni works with the HostExplorer terminal emulation software.  During the installation it is important to tell the program when asked where this program is located.  For library computers this path should be c:\hostex\programs\ (Winoni is looking for the file "acse3hap.dll" which is necessary for communication between WinOni and HostExplorer).  It must be in the new WinOni directory when installation is complete.
  5. After WinOni is successfully installed open it.  The first time it is opened after installation the parameter window will open.  For UF computers fill in these parameters:
Institution group:  UF
Processing unit:  UF
Oni group code:  LE

You can set the default transfer type to whatever is needed and don't worry about the other parameters.  Most user would however want to place a check in the box for deleting the input file at the end of the screen parameter window.  After parameters are set click "OK".

Using WinOni

Basic knowledge of Windows95 and using the mouse is assumed

  1. In order for a successful transfer, both WinOni (WO) and HostExplorer emulation software must be running.  A LUIS session should be completely signed on in the technical mode.
  2. If, for example, the OCLC export file is located on the c drive in the folder "oclcapps", here are the steps you would take to insure that the WO program is set correctly for the transfer of records.
    1. From the open WO window the box labeled "Transfer records to Notis" should be marked with an "x".
    2. "Process records from" should be set to "OCLC export file."  If this is not already selected a list of options can be obtained by clicking on the small downward arrow to the right of the display area.  Clicking once on the desired choice will select it.
    3. "Input file" should show c:\oclcapps\export.dat in the display box (This points to the location of the export file, i.e., if your file was on the a drive "a:\export" would be the display).
    4. "Type" should show the transfer type you want to use.  If you need to change the selection you will follow the same procedure as in "b" above, i.e., click downward arrow next to display area, click on choice to select it.  The display box is directly below the word "Type" on the WO window.
  3. After everything is verified click "OK" and the LUIS screen should go blank eventually displaying a message stating that the transfer has successfully completed.  The WO screen will automatically close itself.
  4. If you have no other work to do in LUIS sign off and close program window.
