VistaVision was a 1953 innovation from Paramount Studios. The process did not look very different from CinemaScope. The chief innovation was that none of the essential action took place at the top or bottom of the picture, so that exhibitors with the appropriate lens could choose their own screen size and no theatre reconstruction was necessary. The first film to introduce the VistaVision process was the top grosser of 1954, WHITE CHRISTMAS.
