** Renovation Work **
The elevator in the Smathers Library Building will be replaced with a new elevator. The construction project will start April 16, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. During this period, there will be no elevator access to the reading rooms and public spaces on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. We will maintain normal operating hours in the Grand Reading Room, the Judaica Suite, the Latin American & Caribbean Collection reading room, and the Smathers Gallery, and these spaces will be accessible by stairs only. If you are in need of assistance with accessing collections and services, please visit the Map and Imagery Library on the 1st floor. Retrieval of materials may take longer than usual, so please contact us prior to your visit. For additional information, contact us at 352-273-2755 or special@uflib.ufl.edu.

The Department of Special & Area Studies Collections encompasses collections of unique and special types of materials (e.g., rare books, archives, and manuscript collections) and interdisciplinary collections pertaining to geographical, national or cultural regions.  The collections directly support a variety of academic disciplines and research programs.

Please note: many of these collections are non-circulating, with materials accessible only through the Special Collections Research Room on the second floor of Smathers Library. Please contact us prior to your research visit.

The majority of holdings are described in the Libraries' Catalog and descriptive finding aids for the manuscript and archival collections, and digital reproductions are available in the UF Digital Collections (UFDC).
