Bear Cut

Bear Cut, or Bears Cut, is a narrow body of water east of Miami and Cocoanut Grove that separates Virginia Key to the north from Key Biscayne and Cape Florida to the south. The Expedition party found cocoanuts on the north side of Bear Cut, which had been planted by Field and Osborn. In the 1900s, the beach on Virginia Key north of Bear Cut became a recreation area for African Americans and later was designated as a segregated beach. Today, it is the site of Virginia Key Beach State Park.
