Brickell Point - Store, Warehouse and Home

Brickell Point photo; source: State Archives of Florida, Florida MemoryWilliam and Mary Brickell moved to Biscayne Bay in the early 1870s and established their homestead at the mouth of the Miami River on the south shore. This site, near Fort Dallas, became known as Brickell Point. For years, the Brickells operated a trading post and other businesses in the pioneer community. Their store also served as the post office. When Ingraham and party visited Miami, they described the store, warehouse, and home of the Brickells. They mentioned that Brickell owned the schooner "Margaret," which was used to transport supplies for the store, and also described the trade with the Seminoles.
