Along with other vegetation, Expedition members noted cocoanuts and cocoanut palm trees throughout their travels.
A note on the spelling of "cocoanut" : The authors of the three Expedition texts were very consistent in spelling the word as "cocoanut" rather than "coconut" which is the more common spelling today. Because of this consistency throughout the texts, the spelling of "cocoanut" is retained here.
