April 6 Camp for the Secondary Group

This camp was not given a number or name. The Expedition party had split on April 4 with a small group traveling via boat with guide Billy Harney to Miami and the majority staying behind as a secondary group following on foot. The secondary group, led by D.M. Baker and Alonzo Church, were marching on the morning of April 6 when they encountered J.W. Newman returning from Miami. Newman was accompanied by Seminoles Billy Harney and Billy Motlow. The group camped at "an abandoned Indian field just above the rapids in the Miami River." The secondary group reached Miami, so this was their final camp on their eastward trip.

Geographic Location: Approximately six miles from Miami.

Camp Established: April 6, Wednesday

Camp Departure: April 7, Thursday
