On their northward journey along the Atlantic coast, the Expedition party noted that the water was very low south of the Indian River narrows at Hobe Sound between Gilbert's Bar and Jupiter. Hobe Sound is a region in the southern part of present day Martin County, located near the Atlantic Ocean between Stuart and Jupiter.
