Hunting Grounds

The Expedition party visited the homestead of John and Mary Addison at a place south of Miami on Biscayne Bay which later became known as Cutler. He was a squatter who settled on land that was part of the Perrine Grant and also was part of the "Big Hunting Grounds," as it was called by the Seminoles who hunted there. In time, his land became known as Addison's Hammock and later became part of the Charles Deering Estate. The Expedition texts also refer to the land as "Hunting Ground Hammock."
