Juno, Florida

The communities around Lake Worth in 1892 were all part of Dade County, and the tiny town of Juno on the northern end of Lake Worth had been the county seat for three years. In 1889, Albert M. Field had donated land to build a new Dade County courthouse in the newly established Juno. Also in 1889, Juno became the southern terminus for the Celestial Railroad from Jupiter. The Expedition party traveled on this railway heading north. The county seat returned to Miami in 1899, and Juno's importance was reduced greatly when Palm Beach and West Palm Beach developed rapidly with the coming of Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway.
