Reese Livingstone

Almost nothing is known about Reese Livingstone, other than that he was African American and his residence was listed as Sanford, Florida. An 1886 directory of Sanford lists a Reese Livingston, hostler, as an African American. His age is unknown at the time of the Expedition. He was a cook assigned to Mess No. 2.

Unable to locate sources definitively identifying the Reese Livingstone who participated in the Expedition. There are records for an African American person or persons named Reese Livingston born about 1859/1860 in Georgia, living in Waverly Hall, Georgia, in 1880, living in Port Tampa, Florida, in 1910, and living in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1920. There are also records for a Reese Livingstone who was born November 1876 in Florida, and who was an inmate in Tampa, Florida, in 1900. Given the name variations and lack of detailed information, confidence is low.
