George E. Mathieux

George E. Mathieux was born in France and immigrated to the U.S. circa 1875-1877. He married Mayme Lenard Mathieux on October 28, 1901. He operated a combination store, garage and home, the George E. Mathieux Service and Supply Co., in Geneva, Florida, which is near Sanford. He would have been 24 years old at the time of the Expedition. He was assigned to Mess No. 2. He was appointed commissary on March 27 to conserve rations, and he also took over chief cook duties.

Note about confidence of this information:

Unable to locate sources definitively identifying George E. Mathieux as the G.E. Matthieux who participated in the Expedition. However, given that Mathieux lived most of his life in Geneva, Florida, which was listed as Matthieux's residence in the Expedition record, confidence is high.
