Mary Barr Munroe

His cottage was about a half mile south of the Peacocks' hotel. They did not meet Munroe's wife, Mary Barr Munroe, because she was ill with malaria. Mary and Kirk Munroe had married in 1883 and they settled in Cocoanut Grove in 1886. She was a conservationist and helped found the Tropical Audubon Society. As a member of the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs, she was instrumental in establishing Royal Palm State Park which later became part of the Everglades National Park. She and her husband helped establish a school and library in Cocoanut Grove.
