Punch Bowl

Harney's Punch Bowl; source: Ralph M. Munroe Family Papers, University of Miami LibrariesWhen the Expedition party sailed on the schooner "Margaret" to visit the Addison homestead at Cutler, they first stopped at the Punch Bowl for water. The Punch Bowl was a natural spring located on the coast about two miles south of the Miami River and Fort Dallas. It was also known as Devil's Punch Bowl or Harney's Punch Bowl (named for General William S. Harney). The spring was circular and rock-enclosed, giving it a bowl shape, and it was about four to five feet deep and three feet in diameter at the top. The site is located just south of today's Wainright Park and immediately north of Vizcaya.
