Southeast Road from Fort Myers

When the Expedition party left Fort Myers, they took the southeast road. This road was used by the ranchers, farmers and others who had settled farther inland. During the Seminole Wars, the U.S. Army used this road to connect Fort Myers with the series of forts and camps it created in the region. The road intersected with other roads and trails connecting Fort Simon Drum, Fort Shackleford and other forts south and east of Fort Myers.
