South Florida Railroad

Ingraham was President of the South Florida Railroad at the time of the Expedition. The South Florida Railroad was incorporated in 1878 and began operations in 1880 with service between Sanford and Orlando. In 1883, Henry B. Plant acquired majority stock in the Railroad and it became part of the Plant System. By the end of the year the road reached Port Tampa, and full service between Sanford and Tampa began in 1884. In 1893 the Plant System acquired outright the South Florida Railroad. In 1902, a few years after Plant's death, the entire Plant System was acquired by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
