Although listed as T.C. Shepard consistently in the Expedition record, it is possible that his name is T.C. Shepperd. There is a T.C. Shepard who passed away in 1895, just a few years after the Expedition, and is buried in Hawkinsville, Georgia, which is the place listed as Shepard's residence in the Expedition record. The 1880 census lists a T.C. Shepperd in Hawkinsville, but this could be a misspelled name. He would have been 20 years old at the time of the Expedition. He was assigned to Mess No. 2.
Unable to locate sources definitively identifying the T.C. Shepard who participated in the Expedition. However, given that there is a T.C. Shepard who passed away in 1895 in Hawkinsville, confidence is high.
