Little is known about T.N. Sutton. The Expedition record lists his residence as Hawkinsville, Georgia. It is unclear how old he was at the time of the Expedition. There are census and other records for a Thomas N. Sutton in Pulaski County, Georgia, including a Thomas N. Sutton who was the son of Martha Sutton and step-father, Henry Phelps. There is a Thomas Newton Sutton who was born on April 8, 1840, and married Elizabeth Wimberly on July 19, 1860. If this is the same T.N. Sutton, he would have been 52 years old at the time of the Expedition, which seems unlikely. T.N. Sutton was assigned to Mess No. 2.
Unable to locate sources definitively identifying the T.N. Sutton who participated in the Expedition. Although some records list a person or persons named Thomas N. Sutton in Georgia, confidence is low.
