Tourism

The Expedition texts make multiple references to tourism and the seasonal populations of South Florida. In both Fort Myers and Cocoanut Grove, they mention how crowded the hotels were with visitors from out of state. They note multiple travelers from Boston and New York. They also mention how hotels around Lake Worth and the Atlantic Coast have closed for the season. They thoroughly explored the financial opportunities of South Florida, including land, crops, and retail goods, but seemed unimpressed with its potential as a tourism destination. James E. Ingraham even stated, "Am not much impressed with Cocoanut Grove as more than a winter yacht club resort."
