Captain Edward E. Vaill

Vaill's Floating Hotel advertisement, The Topical Sun, Nov. 18, 1891Edward E. Vaill was a former hotel proprietor in New York and St. Augustine, Florida. In 1888 or 1889 he purchased the steamship Rockledge from Captain Richard P. Paddison. He remodeled the steamer and operated it as a floating hotel at Jupiter near the Celestial Railroad dock on the Indian River. He later moved "Vaill's Floating Hotel" to Lake Worth and then to Miami, where it saw much use during the expansion of Henry Flagler's railroad and the development of Southeast Florida.
