Series 13 contains
records related to the personal finances and investments of Manuel Rionda
y Polledo. Much of the series is taken up with matters related to
stock acquisitions for numerous firms including Czarnikow-Rionda, the Washington
Sugar Co., the Francisco Sugar Company, the Compañía Azucarera
San Vicente, and the Cuba Cane Sugar Corporation. There are balance
sheets and profit/loss statements for several firms, a record of donations
made by Rionda from 1921 to 1939, trial balances for his personal accounts,
and papers related to the dissolution and settlement of his estate.
The latter sheds considerable light on his real estate holdings (Riovista
and Indian Head) in and around Alpine, New Jersey. Also included
are several items taken from a box marked "His desk" which are presumably
items found in his desk at the time of his death. These include a
notebook for a business trip to Mexico in 1905 and another containing sugar
data for 1880-1913 including weekly market quotations for 1901-1913.
