About the Collection
P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History began as a private collection in Pensacola, Florida. It was jointly developed by
Julien Chandler Yonge (who began collecting books on Florida at the age of 13 in 1892) and his father Philip Keyes Yonge. In 1945, Julien Yonge
donated the collection to the University of Florida, establishing it in honor of his father, and coming to Gainesville as the first curator.
As it enters its second century, the Yonge Library is a leading research center for the study of Florida's past.
Florida Historical Society
Library curator James Cusick is also a board member and president-elect of the Florida Historical Society.
Florida history is on the move! Get involved! Join the Society and participate in its annual conference.
