BAL 4471, first edition with the added chapter and new preface. Full turquoise crushed levant by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, with full rigged ship in gilt on front cover, top edge gilt; bound to match RHD 7.
Inscribed in ink by Dana to his wife, "Mrs. Sarah Watson Dana, May 28, 1869, from R.H.D. jr." The date 1834 is added in Mrs. Dana's hand after the word "August" in line one, page [1]. In the text Dana himself added years to two other dates, changed one, and corrected a spelling error.
