HIS 6061: Introduction to Historiography

Selections from the Rare Book Collection

The following list was compiled as an aid to the above class. It is not comprehensive and is only intended as a guide to the primary resource materials in the Rare Book Collection. In using these materials, it will also accustom the participants in the handling and use of older materials.

The list is basically arranged by the weekly classes in which appropriate selections can be made from the rare book collection. These are based upon the authors mentioned in the syllabus and other titles were added as seemed appropriate. More titles may be added later. There are two sections not related to the weekly classes. They are Historical Writing and Study and Teaching of History. The first gives some examples of historical writing through time and is meant only to give the slightest hint of what is in the collection. The latter reflects thoughts on the writing of history.
