Web Server Outage
The web server was briefly offline this morning during a rewiring operation. It is possible there may be other brief outages until the rewiring is complete. The good news is that the new fiber connection will improve the speed of the web server.

Virus Notification Messages
The mail server is sending out virus notification messages when new instances of a virus are detected. These serve as a warning that the virus is not completely eradicated, but that the server is catching them before delivery. The messages can be deleted. There is no need to call Systems if you receive them.

Very Funny Virus Attack
The Libraries' Exchange Mail server, smathersnt2, was hit with an email virus
August 28 at about 4:15 pm. The "Very Funny" virus is an evil variant of the Love Bug virus which affected us last May. If no one had opened the attachment contained in the original message, it would not have spread any further. Anyone who did open it, and did not have the latest virus protection installed, could have damaged files and lost data in addition to spreading the virus further.
The server was taken down shortly after the virus was detected and the server was scanned to remove the virus. However, the attack resumed
the next morning, and the server was once again taken down. The machines running the two accounts involved in the attack
were taken off the network and the server was restarted.
Please check back here for further developments.
