Abstract: Original identification: 13 ( Joseph Ewan) Aster tenuifolius L. 14 (Joseph Ewan) Lantana f. ovatifoli (Britton) Re-determination by Kent Perkins (KP) or J. Richard Abbott (JRA): ! Symphyotrichum tenuifolium (L.) G.L. Nesom (Asteraceae); Ewan's name is a synonym. this photo matches very well material here at the FLAS herbarium. one tiny thing leaves me with a tiny doubt, though. in the photo, the pappus seems to be white, whereas it is a tawny color in this species. i am assuming this is an artefact of the scanning, because the photo otherwise does match so perfectly. however, if close inspection of the specimen shows the pappus to not have a light brownish tinge, then this could be an anomalous S. subulatum (Michx.) G.L. Nesom (but the specimens here at FLAS look different macroscopically, so, based on the photo, i am fairly certain it is S. tenuifolium).
