Camp No. 2 was established on March 16 at Half Way Pond, which also was named Halfway Pond and Half-Way Pond. The Expedition texts explain that the pond was named Half Way Pond because it was half way between Fort Myers and Allen's Place. Other sources mention that it was half way between Fort Myers and Lake Trafford, and that cattlemen often stopped at the pond on their cattle drives. The Carson homestead was near Half Way Pond.
