Unable to determine the identity of John Smith. There is a news article from the Hamilton News-Press (Marion County, Alabama) from August 15, 1895 describing the murder of "ex-Collector High Smith and his nephew, John Smith, at Lemon City, Fla. about three weeks ago." It is possible that this is the same John Smith who met with Ingraham and party.
