Francis Marion "Frank" Hendry's father was Captain Francis Asbury Hendry (1833-1917), one of the founders of Fort Myers and a leading cattle rancher in the state. He and his brother, George, both accompanied the Expedition from Fort Myers to Fort Shackleford, as guides and to assist with transportation. Frank and George Hendry acted as interpreters during discussions with Old Nancy and the Seminoles they met while at Fort Shackleford. Frank attended Emory College at Oxford, Georgia. Census and other records indicate that he later had a real estate business in Ft. Myers and Tampa.
